In its upcoming fall lineup, Fox Network is answering the nasal, nerdy call for good science fiction. We hope.

New shows from recent science fiction heavyweights are slated to air. Here’s a rundown of the list, courtesy of Wired.com.

Virtuality: Written by Battlestar Galactica creator Ronald D. Moore, this show revolves around the plight of a crew aboard a 10-year mission to a distant solar system. The ship is equipped with virtual-reality equipment that lets them “travel” to other destinations — which is fine until a mysterious bug infects the system.

Fringe: From Lost creator J.J. Abrams, this drama is about an investigative unit specializing in otherworldly mysteries. It’s described as a cross between The X-Files, Altered States and The Twilight Zone.

Dollhouse: Joss Whedon’s dystopian drama about killer assassins living in a futuristic lab will star Eliza Dushku. Whedon described the show as “The Bourne Identity meets Stepford Wives meets boarding school meets Los Angeles neo-noir meets the Whedonverse.”

Boldly Going Nowhere: From the creators of the under-repped comedy team behind It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, this show follows the misadventures of a space crew — sort of a campy take on Star Trek.

And of course we’ll be on sitting on the edge of our couch, watching slack-jawed and drooling for good sci-fi TV.

Joss Whedon fans will remember the TV show Angel, a spinoff series from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Angel, is about a Vampire, played by David Boreanaz, who has regained his soul and fights the good fight while struggling with inner demons from his past.

David’s character is a bit of an aloof, brooding type. He likes people and is a good man/vampire, but his social skills are not quite up to 20th Century, California standards.

In one episode, Angel struggles with an age-old problem that all men have—dancing and not looking like a fool. Yes, we’ve all been there. And like most of us, to solve the problem, “he doesn’t dance.”

In this video, Angel imagines what it would be like if he and his demon/crime-fighting associate on the show, Wesley Wyndam-Price (Played by Alexis Denisof) did try to dance. Keep in mind that Wesley is a nerdy, British fellow, and humor ensues as they trot out some moves that I’ve tried myself—when I’m trying to make others laugh, of course.

I counted at least four or five different commercials hawking sports drinks or vitamin water while watching this year’s Super Bowl. And you can be sure that the New England Patriots and the New York Giants both have huge vats of Gatorade at each end of their respective benches. If it’s not for drinking, then at least it can be dumped on the coach after winning.

It turns out, however, that the highly esteemed sports drinks are not all they’re cracked up to be, despite the commercials. The New York Giants were suffering from cramps and somebody actually had to rush in a big box of bananas to give the players an extra boost of potassium to help stay hydrated in the humid arena. So much for the Gatorade. But how psyched is Chiquita Banana?

How’s that for an endorsement with real appeal?
