The Great Backyard Bird Count, Day 3 (Feb. 17, 2008)

We were primed and ready for the GBBC – Day 3 today with an avian smorgasbord.

We had two feeders filled with black oil sunflower seeds, one feeder filled with peanuts, a platform feeder with nyger seed and chopped apple, some more peanuts piled on a giant tree stump, another platform feeder filled with corn and handfuls of stale and leftover bread strewn about the ground.

The weather today was sunny with light breezes and temperatures were in the high 30′s to mid 40′s.

Today’s highlight was a group of Northern Cardinals that hung about, snatching sunflower seed here and there. They do frequent our yard from time to time, but we haven’t seen them for weeks.
