The Great Backyard Bird Count, Day 2 (Feb. 16, 2008)
It’s Saturday, February 16—day two of the GBBC—and it was a slow morning thanks to the squirrels that gorged themselves on corn, sunflower seed and peanuts yesterday. At one point, there were three of them hanging and feasting on the feeder at one time.
We ran a few errands earlier in the day and picked up some bags of seed and other vittles to entice more birds. The weather today was sunny and cold with a mild breeze. Temperatures hovered in the mid to high 30′s.
Here is today’s tally:
- Rock Pigeon – 2
- Blue Jay – 1
- European Starling – 14
- Dark-eyed Junco – 6
- House Sparrow – 7
I’ve also had a few people ask me about the GBBC and what it’s all about. For reference, I invite those who are curious to check out the Great Backyard Bird Count website. I’ve also found a number of folks blogging about it for anyone looking to read about other people’s experiences.
