Final prime coat in the closets
With the cubby doors finally—and correctly—in place, it was time to prime whatever wasn’t touched. This included some trim, the main top shelf and any of the spackled and sanded areas in the nursery bedroom as well as the cubby doors in both bedrooms.
In addition to the priming yesterday, I applied a coat of wood conditioner and the first coat of stain to the thresholds. We were worried about a good color match with the stain, but Randye managed to find one that is almost dead-on—Colonial Maple. A second application of stain tonight should bring us to almost an exact match of the existing floor.
At this point, I feel like the project is dragging out, but there are so many hours in the day. So I’ll put in a few hours when I get home from work and have divided what needs to be done into stages. Tonight I’ll paint everything that needs to be painted and apply the second coat of stain. That should have us finished, except for the shelving system that needs to be built and installed this weekend.
