Closet refurb: End of week 2

Published by at 8:27 am under Home improvement

Great progress was made by the end of week 2. A little diplomacy with our handymen on Wednesday was enough to turn the screws a bit and get some timely results. (Great guys, but the sense of urgency in semi-retired men was a bit lacking.) Is it taking longer than we expected and were told? Yes. Could we have used more skilled craftsmen? Yes. But are we getting it done for half the price of the “professional” quotes? Hellz, yes! And heck, there’s nothing a good coat of paint can’t cover up anyway.

The closet in the master bedroom is essentially finished. All that remains to be completed is installing the top shelf doors and staining the oak threshold. Our team wrapped things up in there by end of day on Friday and I swooped in with spackle, sandpaper, primer, paint and an array of three brushes.

I primed and painted the heck out of everything to match the white trim throughout the rest of the bedroom—and even touched up some spots around the room. Today, I’m sanding some filled holes and gouges in the walls that occured near the construction area and from our old mirror. Then a quick coat of paint and we’ll be able to move back in. We’re looking forward to moving back into our bedroom.

The nursery closet—oops, did I let that slip out?—is nearly complete as well. That requires some finale work on the trim, installation of the sliding and cubby doors and getting the same spackle, prime and paint treatment that I gave the master bedroom. We don’t have to rush to get that done this weekend, as nobody is sleeping in there. Yet.

Here are today’s photos.
