Our three forsythia bushes are the bane of my mowing existence. With their long tendrils that reach up over 12 feet, out and down onto the lawn, they’re damn near impossible to mow around without becoming a contortionist. They are also blocking precious early and mid-day sun to our small trees on the west side of our lawn.

This past Saturday, we eliminated one of them. We didn’t take the roots out, but are hoping that with such catastrophic damage to the rest of the plant, they will wither and die, making it easy to dig them out. Here’s a shot of the results.

(Note the roots to the left, compared with an existing forsythia to the right, which is approximately 12 feet high.)
