Recency pays off on Google blog search

Published by at 10:46 am under Blogging, internet

As any good blogger and online publisher knows, when it comes to posting information to the Internet, recency (how timely your information is and how quickly you can get it online) is of paramount importance.

Recency is also a key concept for experts in search engine optimization and search engine marketing.

Well, we’ve been tracking our blog traffic for the last couple of months and it seems that folks found one of our posts (The one about the tufted titmouse) via Google blog search. Not only that, but due to the recency of our content (how new it was when someone searched for the subject matter), the entry was listed at the top of the page. Not an easy feat, by any means. But awww, yeeaahhh. We did it.

Just in case noboby believes us, take a gander.

Congrats! Notice the comma, the article, the noun and their placement near the keyword you optimized on. Look at what is called the byte offset. Wink wink… Then…

Lot of SEO’ers have to deal with managers who tell them: neither you, your behind the scenes efforts, nor your team’s writing styles had any affect on SEO regardless of what the traffic data says.

Then when you leave, watch the daily rankings, page rank, and traffic erode… ;^)

Oh, they’ve been noticed. Your tutelage was most appreciated.

Per chance is there a blog de Judah in cyberspace?

    Thanks Paul.
I used to have a weblog that I handcoded around the days when XML 1.0 was out sort of pre and post bubble, but the local ISP I was using was bought, and I shortly I moved, and just never started again due to getting two master’s degrees (in biz/fin instead of CS) and managing a big team at Sun who deployed their ecommerce site. I kept my coding skills up, but now such wonderful tools like wordpress make it all so easy! I was thinking of restarting, but I like how my ranking filled with my quotes and past and future speaking engagements.

Hey drop me a line, and maybe we can have a Belgian beer some night. Bring me a balloon!
