Kitchen – End of week 5
While Paul was rowing in another regatta on Saturday, I stayed home to oversee the kitchen’s progress. The foreman and another guy came by on Saturday as previously promised. They spent a few hours inspecting and opening the various cabinetry boxes and measuring things out to ensure installation moves as smoothly as possible. A few possible issues were identified and I’ll be calling the cabinet rep first thing on Monday to work those things out as best as possible.
Before they left, they got a few of the upper cabinets up and expect to get most of the rest up on Monday! Here’s what we have so far:

After they left, I spent a few hours stripping the old paint off of some of our old original wood trim to be reinstalled around the doors. (The trim throughout our house is original and not replaceable with standard wood stock.) So, since we wanted the trim to match the rest of the house, out came the caustic chemicals!
When Paul returned from his regatta, we spent the rest of the evening priming all of the new kitchen plaster. We felt it would be much easier and safer to try to get as much painting prep done before we have the cabinets, appliances and nice, new flooring in place. (We’ll still need to paint the walls at the end of the job, but at least we knocked out some steps now.)
The night was capped off by gorging on some pizza from Sal’s and beer, sweet beer.
Sunday, we enjoyed a yummy brunch at Scandia with a friend we haven’t see in eons and then it was back to work. Paul painted the kitchen ceiling and I finished the wood stripping job I started the day before.
And that’s where we’re at until tomorrow . . .
