Yay for some real, visible progress!
The columns have been trimmed out and they look fabulous. (I think Paul even offered to hug the foreman he was so happy with them.) It also turns out they aren’t entirely decorative: there’s a joist directly below the island in the basement, and the columns are made of solid [...]
Lots of detail work pushing the finishing side of things today. The crew started priming the wood sub-flooring so that it wouldn’t absorb the adhesive for the floor tiles. They also tidied up some things around the cabinets and started the wood trim on the island. And behold, we have the start to our columns! [...]
A whole lot more of not a lot to tell. Some minor cabinet progress, more plaster tweaks and a start to filling cracks and seams on the plywood subfloor for a smooth installation of the floor tile.
Randye spent the day playing phone tag with the cabinet guy to work out some remaining minor issues.
Slow and [...]
There was no spectacular progress today that can be noted. The guys fixed some nagging fit and hinge issues with the cabinets, reviewed how things would fit together with Randye and shored up some of yesterday’s work.
We also discussed the issue of the bathroom floor with the contractors. It seems there’s a bit of a [...]
A busy day in the kitchen today, as the contractors focused on installing cabinetry. They also sanded down the rest of the plaster on the walls. The cabinet rep. came by to talk to Randye about a few details that came up with what was delivered and other than that, it was all about installation.
Here’s [...]
Another drubbing on the water and it’s back to the gym

The negatives were that I came in 11th out of 13 rowers in the Masters Single event and again, my butt was handed to my by a myriad of midweight and heavyweight rowers. Here are the official results.
But there are some positives out of this [...]
While Paul was rowing in another regatta on Saturday, I stayed home to oversee the kitchen’s progress. The foreman and another guy came by on Saturday as previously promised. They spent a few hours inspecting and opening the various cabinetry boxes and measuring things out to ensure installation moves as smoothly as possible. A few [...]
I thought I was in good shape for the Coastweek’s Regatta this past Sunday in Mystic, Conn., but that was not the case. It turned out, I was unprepared for the race length, which was just over 2000 meters, and not 2.5 miles. A big oops. (The two races styles, head race and sprint race, [...]
Nothing to report today. The contractors were away on another project and promise to be here tomorrow.
It was absolutely nuts today, but in a good way.
To start, the plumber came by because he had some free time and attached the heating pipes to the existing radiators so we could have heat. Eventually he’ll attach the new radiator and pipes, but we’re good for now. He came by because he had free [...]
