Progress off the water

Published by paul at 2:21 pm under Rowing

I had a nasty blister on my right hand after yesterday’s row, so I took the easy way out and hit the ergometer in the gym at work again. Jokes about my manliness aside, I had to grasp the erg handle rather gingerly today, to avoid spraying myself with lymphatic fluid or whatever that clear stuff in blisters is. (How’s that for a grotesque visual?)

The good news is that I improved my time on the erg for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). I dropped almost 30 seconds and clocked in at 20:33.1, with an average splits for 500 meters at 2:03.3. Not too shabby.

At my friend’s suggestion, I’ve started using the Concept 2 online logbook and ranking system as a training tool again. For 5,000 meters, I’m ranked 135th out of 246 total registrants for that distance. Not too bad, but there’s always room to row harder and faster. Always.

I’m excited to get on the water tomorrow to see if I can chew up some extra distance during a 20 minute piece.

After my mountain biking fall, where I sustained an extensive calf muscle bruise that hurt for days, you told me to “walk it off.” And now you’re grousing about a blister?!

To use your own phrase, “Pa-duss!” :)
