Kitchen – Week 2, day 2
Not too much going on today. Only two guys showed up and there wasn’t much they could do. There was some more gutting of walls around the chimney and back hallway.
However, while more opening up was being done around the chimney, Randye had a revelation. She was thinking it might be really cool to place the pantry and built-in wine rack on the other side of the chimney, effectively blocking the hallway from the kitchen directly to the bathroom–not a huge deal because it is sort of a dead area. Then on the other side of the chimney, near the dining room, it would be completely open to the hallway, creating a very airy entry way into the kitchen. The opening would extent from the chimney to the far end of the current dining room doorway, towards the front of the house.
And who knows. Maybe down the road, we could add a French door in that big space. Randye loves French doors.
Regardless, it would mean some extra wood to support the big opening and we’re hoping Perry Construction can come in at a good price for the extra LVL support beams–the labor is effectively the same, whether it’s on one side of the chimney or the other. Fingers crossed for good news tomorrow.
