Biking in Amesbury town forest

Published by at 8:27 pm under Biking

Well, there are no deer in the town forest, but there are plenty of great trails for mountain biking.  Randye went online to find a few nearby spots with good trails and found two in Amesbury, one in Topsfield and one in Georgetown.

We decided to check out the trail loops in Amesbury town forest. They weren’t too challenging, but great for beginners with small hills, some challenging bumpy sections and a mix of solid ground and loose, soiled trails.  Randye and I were both sucking wind and quite pleased that we were able to get some exercise and break a sweat, however the fact that a rather easy trail almost did us in was a bit sobering.

I think we also did rather well considering we were on some pretty old mountain bikes, both at least 10 years old. She has a Raleigh and I have some red piece of crap that a friend of ours gave me for free–I love it! (He was going to throw it out.)

Since we’re not on the trails every weekend, we don’t think it makes sense to be shrouded in the latest trail fashions or festooned with tons of gear. The only purchase made was a small Camelbak pack that I picked up to hold some essentials and carry extra water.

Other than that, it’s all about throwing the bikes on the car rack and heading out. Then, let the maps lead the way.
